BOOK DRIVE

Do you have any elementary-age-appropriate, gently used books your family has outgrown? If so, please consider donating them to our Combat Summer Slump program! We will get your donated books into the hands of kids who may not have easy access to the public library by erecting "Little Free Libraries" around our community. Studies show that students retain the knowledge they gathered throughout the school year better if they continue to read through the summer. We want ALL children to have that opportunity.

The PTO is also donating the money raised at the very successful Which Wich fundraiser (Elm Lawn made a profit of $600!!!) Also, please remember to designate Elm Lawn as the school you wish to benefit when you use your Target card. All proceeds from the Target program will also go to the Little Free Libraries/Combat Summer Slump program as well.

Your child may drop off his/her donation in marked bins available in the library through the rest of the school year. We will also have bins out at the End of the Year Picnic (on the playground at Elm Lawn on June 2, from 5:30 to 7:30). Please feel free to drop off books in the office as well (designated bin or PTO basket).

The Elm Lawn PTO greatly appreciates your generous donation of books!!

Dear Elm Lawn Families,
On behalf of your Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), we would like to welcome you to the 2014-15 year at Elm Lawn!

Your PTO supports our community in creating the best possible experience for all our students. We do this through organizing activities that bring us all together and coordinating fundraisers to raise much needed supplemental funds for our classrooms and also help finance our PTO activities.

Our fundraisers include the Scholastic Book Fair, T-shirt sales, Student Directory Sales, REAP Local Food, Butter Braids, Yankee Candles, Yearbook sales and Square One Art. The largest contributor to PTO funds is the Fall Fund Raiser, which happens each September. This year we will once again be using Chip Shoppe as their array of wrapping paper, gifts and frozen foods is popular and the company’s delivery is efficient and organized, with 40% of sales going directly to the PTO.  They also provide us with the amazing inflatables for our End of the Year Picnic!

With the profits from these fund raisers, the PTO is able to send each grade level to an annual Overture Center performance. Students also attend events at the school such as UW Band performances and they have opportunities to participate in programs like Girls on the Run and Farm to School tastings. The PTO also sponsors family events including Go Nuts for Donuts, Family Fun Night, Mingle Over Kringle, Staff Appreciation Week &
the End of the Year Picnic.

Because of the overwhelming support of Elm Lawn families, the PTO also provides each teacher with an annual discretionary stipend for his or her classroom. In the past, the response to special PTO-sponsored fund drives
has also been outstanding and we thank all of our families for their
amazing support!

Involvement from families and the entire Elm Lawn community is a huge part of the PTO’s success. We cannot run these events and programs without your help. Please consider getting involved with the planning of these events or helping out by volunteering at an event itself. Leadership roles are also available - consider signing up to be a Committee Chair, joining the PTO
Board, or becoming a Grade Level Parent. Please fill out the enclosed volunteer form and send it back in to us at school so we know how you will be involved this year.

Look for newsletter or enews updates, as well as event flyers which will be sent home with your child. We hope to see you at our Community Meetings listed in the box below.  Join us to meet your Elm Lawn Community and to get to know more about the programs, curricula and practices at Elm Lawn.

With gratitude,
Kelly Crocker and Carrie Duggan, PTO Co-Presidents
Chris Laufenberg, Past President
Jennifer Stewart, Treasurer
